Meet Olive the Owl and Bonnie the Butterfly. Aren’t they cute?! These two are part of a collection of patterns called “Freddie’s Friends.” Some of Olive and Bonnie’s friends include Ronny the Robot, Lee Lee the Lion, and Gabby the Gobbler. Wouldn’t these make a sweet gift for the little girl or boy on your gift list?
I love that they are so colorful. The raw edges give them just a bit more character, too.
Shhh….don’t tell! This fun little collection is one of my daughter’s birthday presents. She turns nine three days after Christmas and has mastered straight stitches…it’s time to move on to the next level. She’s getting the pattern, a fat quarter and a bag of Strips and Squares. The small owl calls for just a fat quarter, ten inch squares and scraps…perfect! I think it will be a fairly easy, painless way for her (and me) to increase her sewing skills without having to worry about turning the pieces.
Are you wondering what Strips and Squares are? You may have noticed baskets of color coordinated bags of rolled fabric near the cash registers. Each one contains a combination of twenty strips and squares. The strips are the width of the fabric by 2.5-4″, and the squares are 10.” They are so much fun to play with! I took a bag on our October quilt retreat…I’ll show you late December/early January just how much you can make with a bag of Strips and Squares and one yard of fabric!
Strips and Squares are perfect for the holidays….they are just the right size for a stocking stuffer and they go perfectly with a gift certificate!
